Several numbers of festivals are widely celebrated in this city of Varanasi. This town is mainly considered for varieties of festive celebrations that take place around the year. The festivals and other related celebrations of all the religious in this town and it is also one of the reasons of the holiness of this land.

Varanasi is a location in India that not like the rest of the countries in India, but the variety with the majority of festivals and many vibrant festivals having a place for festivals and events. The religion has more importance in this city. All the religion has major significance in this land. The Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and Janism festivals and celebrations will take place throughout the year.

Maha Shivratri:

The people gathered in Varanasi perhaps indulge in the celebration which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. One of the highlight of Maha Shivrathri is that a grand temple procession will be held at the Maha-Mritunjaya Temple to Kashi Viswanath Temple.

Dhrupad Mela:

This is special Indian Festival that is entirely dedicated for the classical singing event that is held in India by the artist from across the globe. These dedicated artists from their union in the Tulsi Ghat at the holy town of Varanasi. This is also considered as one of the best Tourist Destination which takes palce for more than 5 days.

Hanuman Jayanti:

This festival marks the birth of Hanuman and is celebrated as an event for five days, consisting of cultural festivities at Sankat Mochan Temple. This is also widely carried out in Varanasi.

Mahavir Jayanti:

This is one of the festivals that the people of Jains celebrate mark the birth of Mahavira, the last Tirthankara, during this religious holiday and it is widely prominent in Varanasi. During this season the temples are decorated with flags with idol of a ceremonial bath.

Buddha Purnima:

This day is celebrated as the birth of the Buddha and it is celebrated at Sarnath. This is a Buddhist Pilgrimage located 10kms from Varanasi. People at Varanasi also celebrate this festival with wide grandeur. The colorful processions and devotees present flowers, candles during their offerings.

Nakkatayya Leela:

This is held at the Chetganj district of Varanasi due to the popular episode of Nakkatayya from the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana.

Bharat Milap:

This is also a highlight event that is held in the town of Varanasi. This celebration is held due to the reunion of the two brothers, Bharat and Rama after the return from Ayodhya after 14 years in exile. Thousands of worshippers have a take a colorful procession during this event and gather in the streets.

Diwali:

The Festival of Lights is very prominently celebrated in Varanasi and makes the whole town to illuminate with lights and firecrackers for three days. This celebration symbolizes the victory of Lord Rama’s over Ravana.
